I made these cookies for a local cookie contest, and while they may not have made it into the top three, they did win me the Best Decorated Cookie prize. This is a great Christmas cookie that I put a little twist on to make it seem more like a summertime treat. Find the recipe and more at my blog.

walked to dinner with marc & yuri
and there was a loud, clapping banging
thunderstorm with lightening dazzling the street.
we all had umbrellas but stopped midway
between home & there to wait out
the worst of it. we sat in lawn chairs
in front of the butcher shop and the rain made a neat
waterfall off the canopy in front of us and a jogger
went by with sopping wet socks.

Its the last day before the move

I am hardly packed

I feel very very bad for 100x reasons, mostly me being horrible to someone else and then someone else being horrible to me

I really need a fresh start, no baggage, no bullshit, no lies or deception or sad feelings or feeling worthless (yes I know -exactly- how you feel right now).

First Adelaide action task: get photos developed.

Real first task: sleep.

Theme: My Twist on Indian Chicken (RED!) [23 Jul 2008|02:43pm]

I had actually planned on making the traditional tandoori chicken (but baking it rather than grilling it). However, the grocery store failed me and I decided instead to alter the recipe I had. Read more about that at my food blog if you're interested. There's also for how I did the rice and potatoes there.

Anyway, the chicken isn't overwhelmingly red, but even moreso in person it's definately tinted red. And though it wasn't the tandoori I wanted, it was yummy nonetheless, with the perfect amount of spiceyness!

It's a tradition for my mum and I to, during wild rose season, pick wild rose petals (all rose petals are edible, but we prefer the wild ones), candy them, and decorate a cake. The result is lovely, because as the cake sits in the fridge the flavour of the roses seeps into it and gets stronger every day.

scrubbing everything.
braxton is in worcester haggling on
a subaru forester 2002 84k.
more miles than the 98 but it's
newer and a one owner car with a carfax
record of all the upkeep done at a subaru
dealer, which the 98 one didn't have.
it's grey. i hope it works out okay.
i'm also doing laundry, and i took
my pumpkin full of pennies to the bank while
the laundry was doing.
i swear i called and was told they'd weigh it
& credit it to my account, but they made
me roll all those pennies. luckily i'd
already done some, but i sat there in the bank
for a half hour rolling pennies and dropping
them on the ground and listening to people's
weird banking conversations. my mom used to be a teller
at a bank, from when i was in the third
grade until i was in high school. i don't
know why the bank doesn't have a fucking thing to weigh change,
i guess it is just not worth it to them. a lot of
the pennies i found on the street over the last four years,
& i got $30 so HAH. we're going to go to indian buffet.

my grandma ruth would pick up a penny and put it in her shoe.

...

i just turned down a job interview for an administration position. why? i'm ridiculous. my justification was that i do not want to get stuck in a job that is completely unrelated to my field out of fear that a better one will come along eventually. this is probably something i will regret a week from now during a massive panic attack over lack of employment. but why would i take a job i am unqualified for, and will hate?

because i am desperate.

Pie Filling [23 Jul 2008|10:02am]

[_nishka]
Hello!

I consider myself a fairly experienced baker, but I always have "issues" when it comes to pies. This last pie I made, Martha Stewarts Butterscotch Praline Pie was very yummy but I had one problem! The butterscotch filling never properly "set" and had the consistancy of pudding. Is there anything I could do along the process to make sure it sets next time? At this rate I'll never be able to enter the local pie contest!! ;)

Thank you!

I am proud to say my darling, beautiful baby girl turns 1 year old on September 26th! I am looking for a recipe for her first perfect cake. Dainty and pretty! Maybe fruit or I don't know...something semi-healthy since I am a health freak. Possibly vegan? I'm picky, but I want it to be beautiful and delicious.

TIA!

one pan (no-egg, no-milk, no-butter) fudge cake [23 Jul 2008|12:40pm]

These are great when you've only got 30-35 minutes to spare, or when you've got last minute guests calling to say they're on the way. Notice how it's "one pan", and not even "one bowl", because you literally throw all the ingredients into your baking pan and straight into the oven!

The cake was moist (you have to be careful lifting it out from the pan), but really light and fluffy. I find that the frosting is a must though, because the cake isn't sweet enough on its own, so you can either lather on your favourite frosting, sprinkle some powdered sugar, or just pipe out some peanut butter like me, if you're in a rush to a picnic. I reckon they'd be great with Nutella as well. yuMMy!

Recipe over at my foodblog.
